The 2015 Subaru WRX STI hasn’t been officially revealed, but the boys at Subaru Technica International are already showing off their next-generation racecar in Japan. This car is, of course, based on the production 2015 Subaru STI, which is scheduled to be launched at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show on January 14.
Subaru Technica International has already committed the next-generation WRX STI to competition. As pictured, the STI is set up for the 24-hours of Nürburgring (June 19-22.) This will be Subaru’s 7th time competing in the grueling German competition and will hopefully bring them their third straight win in SP3T Class.
In other racing news, Subaru Technica International will be performing several upgrades to its BRZ GT300 for Japan’s Super GT series. Last year the BRZ-based racer won several Pole Positions and took a class win. This year, STI is aiming for an outright series win.
David Higgins of the Subaru Rally Team USA will make his 2014 debut at the Rally America’s season opener: Sno*Drift, a winter race that begins on January 24 in Michigan. Higgins is expected to get seat time in a new 2015 chassis later this year. You can see a clip of Higgins testing his 2014 STI at drivingsports.com.
Updated (1/12/2014): Incorrectly identified the Super GT racer as being the new STI, when in fact it will continue to be the BRZ raced by STI. It has also been confirmed since this article originally appeared that Higgins will be starting the Rally America series in a 2014 STI.
Looks and sounds great!
