The new 2013 XV Crosstrek replaces Subaru’s outgoing 2012 Outback Sport. Though both cars are based on the Subaru Impreza, only the XV Crosstrek features additional ride-height equal to the Forester, larger brakes, and additional body bracing to better deal with soft-roading adventures.
The new Crosstrek will only be available as either a Premium or Limited model starting at just above $21,000 (final pricing announced in Fall of 2012). Drivetrain choices include either Subaru’s second-generation CVT or a 5-speed manual transmission mated to the 2.0 boxer from the street-going Impreza (148hp/145tq).
Overall, the car is a great option for premium small crossover shoppers. It won’t win any races, but for real-world needs, this car offers quite a lot of bang for the dollar. We did ask if an XT (turbo) Crosstrek was in the cards, to that question the Subaru rep only smiled and said they didn’t comment on future products.
I’d be in the market for the vehicle IF it had a turbo. And PLEASE, if you’re going to make an off-roader……please include a dual-range manual in the states!

When you think of an SUV/Crossover you think of somthing thats a bigger vehicle. You know your gonna want to haul stuff in it and maby even get a hitch package or somthing on it to haul stuff if need be…..so i think Subaru needs to offer an engine with more power to do that. 148hp and 140 somthing ft/lbs isnt gonna be enough. Im not gonna say that then engine needs to have a turbo but it at least needs to have the 3.0R engine available!

I really liked this car until I read that.
148hp is not bad in a vehicle this size/weight (and the CVT helps optimize that power). In fact, Crosstrek has a better power-to-weight ratio than Mazda’s 2013 CX-5 2WD or 4WD versions. Would more power be more fun? Sure, but then Crosstrek wouldn’t have class-leading fuel economy. I think this engine size is a smart choice, and I hope Crosstrek sells well enough to allow Subaru to also offer a faster version in the future… perhaps a turbo or the 200hp 2.0L from the Subaru BRZ.
I’ve driven several of the new 2012 Impreza’s with this engine and CVT. The car is surprisingly responsive. It’s not a rocket ship by any means but it’s not super slow either. Don’t knock it based off the sheer HP numbers alone. It’s about the same performance wise as everything else on the market in this general segment. Plus they ride super nice and get great fuel economy considering it is still AWD.
I thought this got 36 MPG HWY. Bottom Line, TAKE THAT OVER PRICED RANGE ROVER!

If they brought over the 2.0 liter turbo diesel powered version that they sell in Europe, I’d buy one in an instant. It has about the same horsepower, but double the torque, and significantly better fuel economy than the 2.0 liter gasoline engine they’re selling here.
Umm, turbo please, offer a sexy edition with some Grrr, and some Purr.
Disclaimer; Grrr refers to the raw grunt of power that red meat eaters want.
Prrr. refers to plenty of accessory features such as stereo/USB/12v acc. to keep her distracted from your driving like you are in love with your vehicle!

I love my crosstrek. It may lack some power but it is a great ride and has what you really need for everyday driving conditions and mountain trips in Colorado.
Drove one of these two weeks ago. Would have bought if it had more power even at mileage expense. It just does not have enough go. And the trans is terrible. It’s not a true CV and not a std auto either. You could never tell when shifts were coming. Subaru: save the money here and put a turbo or super in it and you have a sale. Probly more.
Needs a snail or increase the displacement. I would trade my 05 OBXT if this had more power.
